When are play centres busiest?

Indoor play centres in South India are busiest at 7pm — on every day of the week, Monday included. The evening (5pm to 9pm) is about twice as busy as the late morning (10am to 2pm), on weekdays and on weekends. Yet 99% of centres that list their hours are open by 11am. These are averages of Google's hour-by-hour busyness for 185 indoor play centres.

Method

Source
Google Maps “Popular times” — Google's estimate of how busy a place usually is at each hour of a typical week, built from location data and shown on public listings.
Sample
185 indoor play centres for children in South India — Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, including Chennai and Bengaluru. Only centres that show a Popular times graph on Google are included.
Dates
Collected from public Google Maps listings between 3 June and 20 July 2026. First published on 3 September 2026.
How we averaged
For each day and hour, we took a simple average of every centre's busyness, with each centre counted once and equally. The weekday column averages Monday to Friday.
Limits
  • Busyness is relative to each centre's own peak. It is the shape of a day, not a count of children.
  • The smallest centres often have no Google graph, so they are missing.
  • All 185 centres are in South India. Centres in other regions — a mall centre in Delhi, say — may peak later.
  • One collection window. Festival and school-holiday weeks may look different.
  • Google does not publish exactly how it computes Popular times.
What we do not publish
Per-centre numbers and centre names. They are Google's data about individual businesses; only the averages are ours to share.
